The Keeper

The Keeper

A slow and steady flame,

Does burn inside this heart,

Though with it knowledge came,

To rip my soul apart.

Of the garden fruit, I ate,

And it hath digested me,

I wondered out the gate,

Eager to be free.

But the world I found out there,

I could not understand,

Not one loving sound,

No one to hold my hand.

I prayed to God for guidance here,

Where things are strange and I’m alone,

He answered me, β€œRelease your fear,

Travel the path I’ve shown.”

The way before me was rocky, steep,

All around me bade me not to go,

How I would fight and toil and weep,

For all I had to know.

I tried to stop, to turn around,

This path was not for me,

But by a promise I was bound,

By all my eyes could see.

I traveled long, my head bent down,

I pitied myself along the way,

Then I learned of one in a thorny crown,

And all He had to say.

We are one, wrapped in one destiny,

Though now I am not the same,

On this path I’ve glimpsed eternity,

And the Keeper of the Flame.
