This film isn’t for the squeamish. It is vampires without any of the window dressing or frills. It is, oddly, the most elegant inelegant film, I’ve ever seen. I think, for me, it is likely that I’d have never said another word about this film after the first time I viewed it, if it weren’t for the ending. I won’t reveal that ending here. Caleb does something for Mae that resonated with me on a deeply emotional level, something she believed to be impossible. It gave me a strange kind of hope, it ignited my imagination. That, to me, is everything that movies and stories are supposed to do for us.
